Latest Match Reports

Citylife v UN Irish Pub, 10th February

In a match of see-sawing fortunes City Life scrambled home against the Irish Pub at Prem Centre on Sunday to win with two wickets in hand. Batting first the Irish Pub put together a modest 125 for 9 with only Mango putting up any genuine resistance with a hard-hitting 23. Pick of the bowlers being Nick Hanlon who bowled his steady leg-breaks to collect 3 wickets for 23 from his six overs, and Noor chipped in with two wickets for no runs in his only over to round off the innings. Worthy of note was Niew’s performance with one wicket for 35 from his six, fairly accurate overs and some fine fielding. He gets better with each match. A minor highlight was the catch by Graeme at first slip that rebounded from the hands of George at second to put an end to a troublesome, and unfortunate, Jigme. Early wickets saw City Life in trouble with the loss of George, Chris Coombs and Makki with only 33 on the board. A steady 50 from Graeme supported by Off with 22 took the score over 100 without further loss and a comfortable win seemed assured. Then, within the space of 15 runs four wickets fell in what was a mini collapse. However, Dean managed to hold things together for the remaining few runs required. The outstanding bowler for the Irish Pub was clearly Asif, who bowled with accuracy and deviation to finish with the remarkable figures of 6 for 14. Graeme Monaghan.

Warriors V Citylife, 26th January

In a low scoring match at the Prem Centre, City Life scrambled home by two wickets in a heart-stopping finish on a variable wicket that gave life to most bowlers. Warriors got off to a disastrous start; at one stage losing 4 wickets for ten including three wickets in one over by Makki, who finished with 4 for 9 from four overs. Steve Potter and Rajah both scored 19 in Warriors meager total of 70. The only other bowlers used were Martin Papworth with three for 34 and Mango 2/19. Not to be denied Warriors fought back, Ishmael taking four for 9 with some very quick, and accurate, bowling with only Chris Coombes showing any real resistance; compiling a steady 23. City Life’s second last wicket fell while still requiring 21 runs to win and the remainder of the innings was held together by Mango with 13 n.o. to see them over the line and finish at six for 72.
